Interference makes it unusable [Posted on 2005-07-26] The product had great reviews on the iPod discussion sites, but for me, it picked up noise interference from my car's engine. As I accelerated, it generated a higher pitched noise. It was bad enough that I couldn't use it. If I plugged my iPod into my stereo without the Flexdock, there was no interference - so I know if was the flexdock.
The other problem might depend on car. The Flexdock also charges the iPod. In my car (GM), the unit charges even when the car is turned off. Not good since it could drain the battery.
Not worth it! [Posted on 2005-09-14] At first I thought it was great, but the stand becomes wobbly and moves while you are driving. I made a sharp turn and the whole thing fell out of the cigarette holder! It evently broke off and hangs on by the wires! Not worth the hassle!!!!!!!!!
The Best I've Seen/Heard [Posted on 2005-12-27] This is the 4th interface I've used to connect this to my car (VW GTI), and its finally one I'm happy with.
Other ones I've used were Griffin iTrip, DLO TransPod All-in-One Car Solution for iPod, and some Monster one. All the radio-based transmitter type connections were horrible sound quality... very distorted. The DLO one was fine with a cassette tape interface, but it just took up way too much room by the gearshifter and heat/AC controls.
I originally thought the Ten charger was poor sound quality and overly distorted. But I discovered that this was from wrapping the cassette tape wire around the gooseneck of the stand to make it look nice. I think its because there's not enough shielding on these cassette tape adapter wires... I unwound the wire and tied it up in back of the top of the stand... still kinda hidden. It works great now!
All in all... best one I've seen and heard. It was not in the way. I haven't had a problem with it falling down... seems sturdy to me.
