Only thing that works well is the mask..... [Posted on 2006-08-18] Kudos to the mask, works excellent and cant complain one bit. Excellent seal, soft silicon, clear view and nice sturdy frame.
Snorkel... Nice feature, works well, the soft tube near the mouth piece causes snorkel to bend easy... I would prefer a old fashioned rigid snorkel
Fins............. They look cool, soft boot, My biggest complaint about the fin is that the straps come loose as you start to swim, the intial force to get moving causes the strap to pop down a couple notches. For some reason the straps kept loosening up even though the strap was not in the open position.. I have had other fins that never did that the way these did.. I was able to swim at a slow pace for over an hour with no issue but the minute I had to suddenly pick up speed the strap would come off my heel which is unacceptable to me. Per US Diver its not recommended to use dive boots and I just dont like how if you pull the strap a little it loosens up... I just think its a design defect with the strap, technically rendering the fins useless unless you have a replacement strap to put on.
Bag.... its a regular cheapo carry bag... typical cheap china material plastic smell (only the bag had that smell)
Overall.. Its a good package for someone who wants all in one with the best they claim they have... The fins would be better if the strap design worked better for me at least.. Could have been my foot, could have been something out of my control.. The product was designed for people with narrow feet which is probably why i had so many issues.. I honestly don't know why the fins gave me such a hard time. Again what to take away from this is that as a overall package its worth the money but I would recommend to go with the cozumel kit for $24.99 as a starter package or just goto a local dive shop so they can recommend a good fin based on your feet, strength and purpose... (scuba cold or warm watter, open heel or full foot, snorkel, current speed... ) so much out there its amazing.. But good luck finding some good snorkel gear.. (Scubapro is a awesome brand and they are made 100% USA!!!
A Warning... [Posted on 2006-12-25] This product is ineffective.
The snorkel gets stuck, either open so that water pours in while you're trying to breathe, or stuck shut so you cannot take a breath of air while under water. It's is very distressing when you're out in deep water snorkelling and the breathing tube fails to perform! I often take in mouthfuls of water, or worse; suck for a breath of air and get nothing! It is therefore useless, I stopped using the tube as it is more trouble than good.
I bought two sets, one for my partner and one for myself, and they both fail to perform. The mask on one set broke after 2 months (the metal pin became dislodged) and the tightening clips on the flippers frequently fall off while trying to tighten them to your feet. The bag's zippers rusted not long after use... given that most people snorkel in salt water, you think they would have considered rust proofing the metal.
Overall the quality of these not-so-cheap kits are embarrassingly bad. We both felt awkward snorkeling with them, and sometimes I even felt they were hazardous.
We tossed these products and bought Cressi brand gear. It has changed our underwater experience!
