Fans not where I needed them [Posted on 2008-09-18]
This notebook cooler is actually more lightweight than I thought it would be. That part about it is great. It is also extremely quiet and easy to use. What I should have thought about before I bought it was the location of the fans. My laptop was overheating in the upper right-hand corner, and the fans were located in the center, so the cooling system did no good for me. The fans also didn't seem powerful enough to solve my overheating problem anyway. Something more powerful (and noisy?) may have worked. I ended up adjusting the power usage control under the control panel on my laptop, and the computer cooled down.

This very thin, lightweight cooler works very well. It does not add bulk or weight and only requires a USB connection. A definite must-have for anyone who uses their laptop on their, well, lap!
Melted Plastic Can't Cool Your Laptop [Posted on 2008-10-16]
My laptop, which is not very hot (Lenovo T60p), compared to something like a Dell Precision Mobile workstation. The Vantec cooler is made of plastic and within 2 weeks of purchase, the plastic has permanently melted and has mishaped the cooler. Now, when simply setting the laptop down on it the fans rub making enough noise that you end up unplugging the USB power cable.
Save your money and shop for something made from metal.

This is an EXCELLENT notebook cooler. I have a Toshiba 15.4" which would get uncomfortably warm, especially if the blanket blocked the cooling vent when I used it in bed. This cooler solved that problem. You can't hear the fans, they are incredibly quiet. The connector is on the side so you can connect to a side or back port on your computer. If you squeeze the plastic - the fan will hit the surface. This is a notebook cooler - NOT A LAPTOP DESK! I bought a folding laptop desk to use in bed but it is not necesssary because this cooler does what it's supposed to. It looks flimsy, but it isn't. I like the USB connection. It holds up to what it says: quiet, slim, light, and it works. It's a great product for the money. I would consider buying another to take when I travel.

I recently purchased the Lapcool3 because I realized that my laptop (a Dell XPS M1530) was running what I considered to be dangerously hot, especially as I have a habit of using said computer for more than 10 hours at a time.
Two days ago, I received my Lapcool3 and immediately set it up on my desk under my laptop. My M1530 is a 15.4" laptop, so there is overhang on either side and a little bit in the front, but it isn't so bad that there's any instability - it works fine for my setup.
Immediately I could tell the difference. Last night, I ran my laptop for about eleven or twelve hours, and it was still running about as warm as it usually did after an hour or so. Thus far today, I've had it on for just under three hours, with the same result.
This little thing is amazing. And it runs really quietly, too - it's no louder than my laptop's fan, and if I have my music on, it's barely noticeable. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone who needed it. :)
