no M3U playlist support; forgets where it stopped last time [Posted on 2007-02-10] 4 stars for the hardware side:
+ great sound
+ well thought-out design
+ works with 4GB SD card (Transcend)
- there is a *really annoying* blinking green light on the front side of the unit
2 star for the software side:
- does not support playlists --- the only way to play music is either in linear or random order
- when turned off the unit "forgets" where it stopped last time. That means you hear the same songs over and over again...
Get it now [Posted on 2008-04-19] This IS an MP3 player when used with the SD card. Playlists would require a display and for this price won't happen. The company X2Gen went bankrupt at the end of 2007 so no warranty or support but it is complete as is and I suggest you get these while they are available. It comes with the adapter, the batteries, and an SD card so add up those accesories and this could have sold for way more. It's a terrific value. The sound quality is suprisingly good. The only complaint I could come up with (aside from the blinking green light, which changes to amber if batteries get low) is that I would have liked a headphone jack to make the core (center) an SD card mp3 player. But folks this thing is versatile. The other thing i would like is a case because if this fits in your pocket you have a big pocket. It even knows how to switch between the usb input and the SD card so you don't have to take the card out. I at first wondered how to get to the volume wheel if it was in egg form but they even thought of that. Engineering marvel. I just wonder who the engineer was that thought the blinking of the green light was a good idea. put tape over it and problem solved. Great buy.
Don't turn on [Posted on 2008-06-25] I have tried just batteries, just ac adapter, batteries and ac adapter. I hold the play button down as it says to do in the instructions....power won't come on. Of course the company is bankrupt so I can't get any help there. I guess I will just have to return them.
Unbeatable in it's price range. [Posted on 2008-08-27] For the price, you do get what you pay for and then some with this convenient audio player. Yes, it is lacking "play list" option, there is no screen to see what song you are "skipping ahead" to, but there aren't going to be any songs I dislike in my own music player, anyway, But for all else this player offers, you would be asking a bit much to expect to "get it all" in this price range. I will definitely say that the speakers sound surprisingly good, better than I expected. This player is without a doubt, well worth the money.
