ZipConnect 900MHz Wireless Outdoor Speakers (SR288)Brand: Sharper Image Binding: Electronics
Very satisfied [Posted on 2007-11-01] I bought these for my spa room. I thought I would need 2, but the sound quality is so good that I am able to use the "spare" elsewhere. The first couple of times, I had to fiddle a little bit with the receiver and speaker to get reception, but once I figured it out, they were very easy to use. Worth the price, especially to get 2.
Good While It Lasted [Posted on 2007-11-17] Bought these speakers in March 07, it is now November 07 and the power to the transmitter stopped working. One day it was on, the next off. If this product can't last more than a year, it's not worth it. It was probably used once or twice a week, never put batteries in the speakers, had power outlets outside - the speakers work fine, it's the transmitter that died.
Great Speakers! [Posted on 2007-12-26] These were purchased as a gift for my son-in-law's lake house, to put on the deck. He loved them so much, I bought another set for my other son-in-law. These have great sound, and the wireless feature makes them so fun for parties, or just relaxing outside.
Not Great & Poor Customer Service [Posted on 2008-03-06] I was so excited about this product. I live on a farm and have a nice Lansing In Motion for my ipod which is GREAT BTW and it chargers and I can bring it around like a portable, however I wanted to set up speakers in various areas, my office, my decks, etc. I got the item and hooked it up to my Lansing using the audio cord which should be no problem. After 5 minutes the receiver stopped sending a signal. So I plugged my ipod directly in and it worked fine for about 15 min then same thing, it just stopped. I also think the transmitter needs a better design. You have to pull parts out to charge your ipod. The speakers, however are very nice and sound great when its working.
The biggest problem I have with this purchase is customer service. I have done business with Sharper Image over 20 years and never had the problems I've had in the last 5 years. First I email them back and forth which takes them almost a week. They told me they were emailing a shipping label for me to put onto the DEFECTIVE product and then I had to bring it to a UPS drop center? Anyhow, I never got the label so I called. The first girl on the phone was rude and interrupted me twice. I finally asked for a supervisor that told me she would resend the label, to drop it off at UPS and in a few weeks I should get my replacement. First of all why am I having to drop this off at UPS and second why dies it take up to 3 weeks for me to get a replacement? I offered to give my credit card if they shipped a replacement right away and then sent an RMA to return the defective unit. She said they no longer so that. It wasn't until I asked for a refund that she said the best she could do is AFTER I drop it off at UPS to call them and once the are assured it is in route she would allow the replacement to ship.
I will take it to UPS today but I'm not holding my breath on this. To be honest I am so turned off by sharper image I don't think I will order from them again. I order air purifiers, paid huge money for them and after 3 years they just stopped working. I called and they said they could replace them with upgraded units but I would have to pay for them. A discount but still would have to pay. I did it and do you know these new units stopped working after 3 years? I'm not even going to bother at this point because why would i spend 300 on a unit I have to replace in 3 years? I'm going to try and find another unit so if anyone reads this and know a good unit please email me.
Zipconnect Speakers [Posted on 2008-06-05] Not sure if they're worth the money ($165). Wireless requires 12C batteries, plus AAA for the remote. Can't change songs unless you're near the base (which would be inside); the remote is only for volume. Speaker sound is scratchy when volume is at any level that can be heard outside. For the money, you might be better off buying a less expensive iPod doc and cranking the volume. And, the speakers are HUGE in size; not exactly techno looking for 2008.
